Even though the island is small there are plenty of places to eat. Tourists can choose from fast or fancy food, local or foreign meals or anything they like in between.

No matter what a tourist in Chincoteague feels like eating, they can easily find it. A wide array of restaurants serve all different kinds of foods that will satisfy every tourist who passes through. There are places for families, couples, and kids.

Fast Food on Chincoteague

The closest fast food joint to the beach is McDonald’s. For a healthier alternative there is also a Subway on the island. But the most popular fast food is the Sea Star, a gourmet made-to-order sandwich shop. The Sea Star has small outdoor tables, but is perfect for getting a fresh sub or wrap to take down to the beach. Woody’s BBQ is another outdoor carry-out with fresh BBQ chicken and great side dishes.

Family Restaurants on Chincoteague Island

For a pizza, burgers, and fries nightFamous Pizzaoffers sit-in, carry-out and delivery. They offer a wide range of great food that will please the whole family. Don’s Seafood has great seafood platters and a variety of non-seafood dishes for tourists who don’t like seafood. Don’s also has outdoor seating by the water. Sugarbaker’s has soup and sandwiches and a variety of tasty baked goods. Bill’s Restaurant serves great breakfasts and fine dinners. Steamers Seafood Restaurant is famous for it’s crabs and steamed seafood.

International Foods on Chincoteague

When a tourist is craving something more than pizza, burgers, and seafood, the island boasts a variety of choices. Asia is represented by Little Saigon, which serves hot fresh Vietnamese food and Great Wall II is there for tourists who prefer Chinese. That Mexican Place has a large menu of Mexican dishes and great margarita’s. Maria’s and Famous Pizza also offer selections from Greece and Italy like gyros and pasta.

Chincoteague Island Fine Dining

A.J.’s On the Creek is right across the street from The Village Restaurant , both serve upscale dinners, usually with seafood plates or steaks. The Village Restaurant is a bit more family friendly, but still great for a romantic dinner. A.J.’s is more for adults with low lighting and a more gourmet feel. The Sea Shell Café not only offers fine dining, it also boxes up gourmet sandwiches and quick meals to take to the beach.

Ice Cream on Chincoteague Island

The Island Creamery serves homemade ice cream in every flavor imaginable, from common chocolate and vanilla to the more unusual like cotton candy and cantaloupe. The most popular flavor is Marsh Mud, a super rich chocolate. They also have seasonal specials like candy cane, eggnog, or pumpkin pie. The Island Creamery also serves smoothies and homemade fudge. For a faster soft-serve option, Mister Whippy’s is right down the block and boasts a drive-thru for vacationers in a hurry. For a more old fashioned feel tourists can get their ice cream from Muller’s Ice Cream Parlor.

Coffee and Drinks on Chincoteague

The Main Street Coffee House sells all sorts of fresh coffee. One sip and Starbucks will be forgotten. Chattie’s Lounge, located above Don’s Seafood, sells lots of drinks and is a great place to unwind and get away. Some nights they offer live music. It can also be a good stop for a drink while waiting for a table at Don’s.

Fresh Chincoteague Seafood

Just about every restaurant on Chincoteague that serves seafood offers something caught locally. It’s easy to find clams and oysters that came from Tom’s Cove, a little cove between Chincoteague and her sister island Assateague. For tourists renting a house that feel like cooking there are several fresh seafood stands around the island. Ricky’s Seafood sells fresh caught seafood and fresh produce. Sea Bass also provides fresh seafood, caught by the owner himself. Sea Bass will provide Old Bay Seasoning or sprinkle it on a purchase. They are also happy to provide a quick lesson in eating whole crabs or prying open oyster shells.

Eating on Chincoteague Island

In addition to the restaurants listed here several more lay tucked in around the island, all of them good. No matter where a tourist goes, they will be sure to find food they love. The one thing to keep in mind is that many of these places close during the winter. Hungry tourists should be sure to check and see if the place they are planning on eating in is open before they go!
