The newest book in the Argeneau series, The Reluctant Vampire, is sure to please readers old and new. In the fifteenth novel Lynsay Sands once again keeps her audience entranced. She skillfully explains and introduces old characters and plots to new readers, without losing the interest of long-time fans. A rarity in the Argeneau series, this book features a couple who are both already vampires.
The Accidental Vampire, True Love, and Loss
Harper Stoyan was first introduced to readers in The Accidental Vampire. In that novel several vampires, including Harper, all met their lifemates while visiting the tiny town of Port Henry. Every vampire in the world has a lifemate, the vampire term for soulmate. Some take hundreds, even thousands of years to find and every vampire dreams of the day they'll find their one true love.
After living alone for centuries, Harper found his lifemate, but Jenny was human. Vampires are only allowed to turn one human into a vampire. Ever. Harper used his only chance on Jenny, but she died during the turn and Harper was devastated. Not only had he lost her before they could even be together, he knew that if he were blessed enough to find a second, if she were human too he couldn't be with her.
A Beautiful Vampire Woman and Girl with no Fangs
Enter Drina Argenis. A member of the Argeneau family, Drina goes to Port Henry to help watch Stephanie McGill. Young Stephanie was recently turned into a vampire by the evil vampire Leonius. Leonuis is what is known as a no-fanger; an insane, fangless vampire. Because he turned Stephanie she became an edentate: a vampire without fangs, but who kept her sanity. She was brought to Port Henry for protection while Leonius was hunted.
Stephanie has a gift: she can read the minds of anyone, even older vampires. She claims she can also sense some sort of energy between lifemates. She knows for a fact that Drina and Harper are lifemates and decides to help set them up. There's just one problem, Stephanie's powers could be a sign that she too will become a no-fanger...
Waiting for Mister Right and Vampire Hunters
Drina has been a Duchess, a pirate captain, and a gladiator, but after centuries of waiting for her lifemate, Drina is more than ready to settle down with him. The only problem is that Harper is so overcome with guilt over Jenny's death that he won't be easy to convince! Before she reveals that they're lifemates, Drina will have to capture Harper's heart and help him get over his guilt. Otherwise she risks losing him forever!
Even more of a challenge will be winning over Harper while protecting Stephanie! Things start to happen that lead Drina to suspect someone is trying to kill them, it might even be Leonius! Can she protect Stephanie and convince Harper to be with her?
