Victor Argeneau was born over 2000 years ago. Ever since his wife was burnt at the stake in 1695 he's kept to himself. He won't even see his son Vincent. But Victor keeps busy. He works as an enforcer for council. He hunts down vampires who have broken vampire laws and brings them to the council for judgment.
The most important of the vampire laws is to never allow humans to find out that they exist. Victor and the council discover an ad in the paper from a woman who claims to be a vampire looking for a single vampire man. Unable to imagine that one of their own kind would flaunt the law like that, Victor and his partner DJ respond to the ad and go to check it out.
They find that a few other curious vampires, and one wanna-be goth kid, have answered the ad as well.
An Accidental Vampire is Born
Sixty-two-year-old Elvi Black and Mabel have been best friends since they were little girls. The last thing Elvi remembers about their vacation is the car accident. When she woke up she looked like she was twenty-five. In fact, she looked even better than she had and twenty-five. She was also a vampire.
Knowing that she will someday die and leave Elvi alone, Mabel puts an ad in the paper without telling her. Surely there must be other vampires in the world, right? When Victor, DJ, and several other vampires show up Mabel is thrilled.
How is Elvi supposed to know that being the town vampire, not to mention giving kids their annual “birthday bite” is against the law when she’s never met another vampire in her life?
Falling in Love With a Vampire
Before Victor realizes what’s happening, he starts to fall for Elvi. The more he teaches her about their world the more he realizes he wants to spend forever with her. Elvi has six eligible vampire bachelors at her beck and call, but the only one she has eyes for is Victor.
Drinking Blood and Staking Vampires
To Elvi, everything is fun and games now that Victor is in town. She learns she can eat food, not just blood, and makes a late-night run to buy out the grocery store and indulges in a large bed when she finds out that she doesn’t need a coffin either. That crossbow bolt that almost hit her? Clearly a mistake, nobody is out to get her. Everyone in town loves her!
Victor, on the other hand sees the situation differently. Even though he’s enjoying sharing Elvi’s first taste of food after her turning and sharing a bed with her, life isn’t that great right now for him. The fact remains that Elvi has broken their laws and Victor still has to bring her before his cold-hearted older brother Lucian to be tried. Not only that, but he’s convinced that that crossbow bolt was meant for Elvi’s heart! Someone is trying to kill her and unless he can convince her to be careful, they might succeed!
A Fantastic Vampire Love Story
Published in 2008 by Avon, The Accidental Vampire is a compelling, wonderful novel. For the first time in the series the human-turned vampire is forced to muddle through without a vampire to show her the way. It’s a refreshing, unique vampire love story. Readers won’t be able to put it down!
