Doctor Rachel Garrett is working just another night at the morgue. A body of a horribly burned man arrives and Rachel goes about her business. But then it seems like the burned skin is flaking off and leaving perfectly undamaged skin beneath it. She wonders if she is going crazy when the body looks exactly like the body of a handsome man who was brought in the night before. Then a man with an axe, screaming about vampires, bursts into the morgue. Rachel knows that she’s going crazy when she jumps in front of the axe to protect the body.
Love Bites
Etienne Argeneau’s life is pretty good. He’s a successful game designer and his sister Lissianna is about to get married. But he’s got a stalker who is convinced that Etienne is a vampire. The man seems harmless at first and then he shoots Etienne. Fortunately, Etienne really is a vampire and a bullet is no big deal to him. Then the man tries to blow him up with a car bomb and once again Etienne wakes up in the morgue, healing. But this time he wakes up just in time to see his stalker swing an axe at him, only to have a human woman throw herself in his path. Etienne can’t let her die, not now that she had saved his life, so he turns her into a vampire.
Vampire Laws in the Argeneau World
Etienne now has a huge problem. In order to keep their existence a secret vampires are only allowed to transform one human. Ever. Etienne has just wasted his only chance on a human he has never met before. His problem is even worse because vampires don’t just date around like humans do. Somewhere in the world is a soul mate. Etienne’s brother Lucern is 600-years-old and he still hasn’t found his soul mate. If Etienne’s soul mate is human, he’ll never be able to turn her. He’ll have to watch her grow old and die.
His only chance will be if, by some miracle, Rachel turns out to be that soul mate. But Rachel never asked to be a vampire and she doesn’t want to be. How can Etienne even have an opportunity to see if he and Rachel are compatible if she hates him for what he did to her?
The Second Argeneau Romance Novel
Lynsay Sands delivers another masterpiece. Love Bites, reissued by Leisure in 2009, is a hilarious tale of the vampire game designer and human coroner and their story. The reader is drawn in by the plot and characters. Etienne, Rachel, and the rest of the cast are well-developed, believable, and easy to identify with. This book is packed with more plot and intrigue than the usual romance book. The reader gets drawn into Rachel and Etienne’s problems and there is plenty of action with Etienne’s stalker still out to kill him. But the book is still packed with fantastic romance and well-written romantic encounters. If a reader is in search of a compelling vampire romance novel Love Bites should top the list.
