Instead of regretting being alone on February 14, take advantage of it! Who says singles can't enjoy V-Day? Singles should use it as an excuse to pamper themselves!

Countless people dread the approach of Valentine's Day. These people are single and hate the thought of spending V-Day alone. But, they're going about being alone the wrong way. As Mark Twain said "The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself."

Instead of viewing the impending day of romance as a horrible reminder of being single, think of it as a way to build self-worth and confidence. Everybody needs a day to relax and give himself or herself a treat, so why let the couples have Valentine's Day all to themselves?

Have a Memorable Valentine's Day

The key is to plan the day in advance to ensure that it will be packed with events that celebrate being alone instead of mourning it. First, take the day off; who needs to go into work and see co-workers getting flowers and chocolate? If watching people get presents from loved ones is depressing then there's no need to be subjected to it. The goal of this day is to go to bed after having a wonderful time without a significant other and the best way to start is by sleeping in a bit. Wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to face the day.

Flowers, Chocolate, and Spas

People buy themselves chocolate and flowers throughout the year and Valentine's Day shouldn't be any different. Go get that box of chocolate and enjoy it! Buy some flowers and brighten up a room! When buying those flowers get some extra ones for others who will be alone on V-Day and aren't planning on pampering themselves. It can feel great to make another person happy.

The ultimate in self-pampering is often a trip to the spa, but a lot of people don't go because they want to save money. This year, save up some extra and use it on Valentine's Day for just that purpose. Many couples and people in relationships will be throwing away cash on expensive dates and balloons with hearts, so there's no reason that singles can't enjoy a bit of frivolous spending as well. Get a massage or a body wrap and feel good!

Buying the Perfect Valentine's Day Gift

After a trip to the spa it's time for shopping! Most people have a special item that they always eye in the store, but never buy. In fact, some of the best gifts for a significant other are the ones they would never buy for themselves. Since this is a day for singles to love themselves, they have no reason to not go and buy it. If money is a concern or it really isn't the time to buy that little knick-knack, then just wander the stores and window shop. Feel free to create a little mental dream list. Just don't leave the store without that chocolate!

Romantic Dinner or Good Food

Just because a dinner is "romantic" doesn't mean that it's good. Half of the cost is the atmosphere. This year scrap the loneliness inducing ambiance; order take-out from a favorite restaurant. Don't worry about diets or money: it's Valentine's Day! Get some tasty comfort food and settle in for a movie. This doesn't have to be a date movie, or even a romantic one at all, just get a favorite movie or rent a new blockbuster to watch. Have a fun night-in with a filling meal and a good flick and save the dishes for another day!

A Blissful Valentine's Day Alone

After the end of a busy, happy Valentine's Day it's time for a bath. Get some bath salts and oils, light some candles, play some relaxing music, and settle into a tub full of hot water. If sitting alone doesn't sound appealing, bring in a good book or listen to a book on tape – keeping that music on, of course. Relax, bathe, and feel loved. When the water finally starts to get cooler climb into bed and enjoy the end of a wonderful Valentine's Day.
