The thirteenth book in the Argeneau series, Born to Bite picks up where the previous novel left off. This book, just as romantic as the other ones, also has a murder mystery woven in. Sands does a masterful job bringing new readers up to speed without confusing them or adding too much old information that fans already know.
Hunted by Evil Vampires
Armand Argeneau is asked by Lucian, his older brother, to temporarily shelter the vampire Eshe d'Aureus. Eshe is an enforcer; she hunts down vampires who have broken laws like killing humans. In the past few novels the enforcers have been hunting an old evil vampire whose father was killed by Eshe's father. Lucian is afraid that Eshe will be in danger and Armand's back-country farm is the perfect place for her to hide.
Little does Armand know, Lucian has other reasons for sending Eshe to hid out at his farm. Readers, however, are hoping that Armand and Eshe will be life-mates. Every vampire in the Argeneau series has a soul-mate somewhere in the world and the dream of every one of them is to find that person.
Murder, Mystery, and Bad Luck
Readers have grown to love Armand Argeneau's sons Thomas and Nicholas and his older brother Lucian, but know little about Armand himself. What they do know is that he had three wives, one of them his life-mate, and all three died mysteriously either in fires or by being beheaded. Both are ways to kill vampires, which is nearly impossible to do. If that isn't suspicious enough, his son Nicholas' wife was beheaded and burned in a car accident.
Investigations in previous novels have turned up dead ends, but one thing is certain; these deaths may not have been an accident. Nicholas' wife died when she was asking questions about his mother's death. As the only thing connecting all four women together, Armand has become the prime suspect!
Solving the Mystery and Falling in Love
Eshe isn't there to hide; she's undercover. Lucian has assigned her to question Armand and try to find out if he's a murderer or a victim. There's just one problem, Eshe and Armand turn out to be life-mates. Now Eshe has to try and prove that the man she loves is innocent, even though her love for him starts to cloud her judgment.
If Armand really is the killer then Eshe could be his next victim. But if he's innocent, there's every chance that the real killer could come for Eshe. Either way, she's in danger. Will Armand be the one to save her or the one to stake her?
