Here are some unique, fun projects that kids can make and be proud of for the holidays. They’ll even look great as decorations for adults to enjoy.
Make a Marble Snowstorm with Paint
Materials:
- Black Paper
- White and/or Light Blue Paint
- A marble
- Crayons, pencils, or paintbrushes
- Low sided box large enough to hold the paper
If they like the kids can draw/paint something like a snowman, trees, or other winter things on the paper. Then put the paper in the box and let the kids roll the marble in paint. They will then drop the marble into the box on top of the paper. The kids will tilt and bounce the box, allowing the marble to roll all over the paper, creating a white paint blizzard over the picture.
Take the picture out and let it dry. Hang it somewhere for the season and enjoy it.
Graham Cracker House
Gingerbread houses can be fun to make, but they can be time-consuming and tricky for younger children. Instead of gingerbread use graham crackers!
Building Materials:
- Graham crackers for the walls and roof
- Icing for glue
- Candy to decorate
Just like a gingerbread house, help the kids stand up the walls and attach a roof. Then they can use the icing as glue to add decorations all over their house.
Another option is to make a flat house. Kids can make just a single wall and decorate it with a couple of windows and a door. This will be easier, faster, and less junk food to eat when it’s finished!
Personalized Clothespin Angel
The kids will have fun making this, but it might just end up being more sentimental to the parents.
Materials:
- Clothespin without a spring
- Wallet-sized picture of child
- Paint
- Paper doily
- Gold pipe cleaner
- String to hang the angel
First, the child paints the clothespin any way they like. Help the child carefully cut their head out of the picture, cutting away as much of the background as possible. Next, cut the paper doily in half. Glue the doily onto the back of the clothespin, forming the wings. Glue the child’s face to the other side on the top of the clothespin. Form a halo with the pipe cleaner and glue that on as well. A string can be tied around the “neck” of the Angel for hanging.
Chalk Snow
Materials:
- Black piece of paper
- White chalk
- Clear protective spray coating
Kids can draw their own picture on the black paper, creating a snowy night scene. Afterwards, an adult can spray the clear coat over the picture to keep the chalk from smearing and making a mess.
These are just some of the great, unique crafts can kids can do for the holiday season.
