Katie Ouderkirk started working at a barn when she was ten. As the years went on she worked at a number of different barns, two zoos, and a veterinary hospital. She learned how to sew, knit, and crochet when she was young and has sold her work from a number of websites and at craft fairs. She has taken a number of different classes in crafting including cake decorating, cooking, pottery, and photography. Katie started playing instruments in elementary school and now plays bass clarinet, ukulele, and some piano. She went with an orchestra to play concerts in Europe and traveled to a number of different countries. She also participated on Semester At Sea and spent time in Central and South America. In addition to a bit of Spanish she picked up on her trip she took two years of Japanese in college. She spent her summers growing up on Chincoteague Island in Virginia and still visits at least one weekend a month.

She currently works at a local historical site as a historical interpreter. She teaches visitors about the site and also does demonstrations like candle-making, spinning, weaving, and farming. Katie has a Bachelor’s in Anthropology and is currently back in school for a degree in Early Childhood Education. She also works for a company teaching science after school to children.
